Q: I need to replace a part in my Gateway Laptop, how do I find the correct replacement?

A: The first step you will need to take is to locate your Gateway part number. This number is sometimes difficult to locate, and some parts may have multiple part numbers on them, leading to extra confusion. Gateway part numbers typically have 2 formats. One format is a simple 6 digit number. The other is formatted like the example below as 40-A07500-CC01. Using this page I will show you how to find and identify the correct part number for certain parts.

Here is an example of a Gateway part number:

Q: I want to replace the motherboard in my gateway laptop, where is this number located?

A: Gateway part numbers on motherboards can typically be anywhere on the motherboard. You may have to remove the motherboard from the laptop to find the sticker.  Make sure that the part number sticker you are looking for is more directly on the motherboard and not an attached part. You should look underneath the RAM and WiFi card first as the part numbers are sometimes underneath them.

Here is an example of a Gateway motherboard with both part number stickers (40-A07500-C2A0) and (105541) on it:

Q: There are multiple part number stickers on my motherboard. How do I know which one I need?

A: Using the example up top, both of the stickers are for the same motherboard. Both part numbers will find you a compatible replacement. If this is not the case, the easiest way to figure out which part number belongs to the motherboard is to simply Google the part number and look for related results. If the part number is giving you pictures and links to a part that is not the motherboard, then you know you do not have the right part number. There can be multiple part numbers on a gateway motherboard for various other attached parts.

Q: I’m trying to replace an inverter in my laptop, however, there are no Gateway part numbers! What do I do?
A: You may find that some parts, like inverters, do not always have Gateway part numbers on them. In these cases, you must correctly identify the manufacturers part numbers on the part to find a compatible replacement. Here is an inverter that does not include an Gateway part number.

You can see the outlined part numbers on this inverter are YNV-W10 and 19.21072.101.  Both of these numbers will find you a suitable replacement. You may find that upon looking for one to purchase, you see it listed for a different laptop model than your own. Do not worry, some parts are used in many different laptops and are compatible in many different models. As long as you match the part number you are replacing, the part you purchase will be compatible.
